XGloo Announces Anexis Server
1st July 2007

Today, XGloo announced the release of Anexis Server: a complete server and tools environment for building and hosting service-oriented architectures on Windows. The announcement came from XGloo Managing Director Greg Bellingham, who explained the excitement surrounding the new product:

"We are very excited about Anexis Server and we believe the software industry will be too...It's going to revolutionise the way teams build service-oriented architectures on Windows."

"We have been aware for some time that many software teams would love to capitalise on the benefits of SOA, but several, common concerns are creating ambivalence towards actual implementation. I think there's definitely a feeling amongst developers that the number of XML dialects required to implement SOA represents an unattractive learning curve and there's a distinct lack of knowledge and tools to bind everything together as a finished product. Architects have reservations too, with concerns over maintainability, standards conformance and centralised control over the disparate technologies. However I think the biggest prohibitor for SOA right now is cost. Senior managers are reticent - and quite rightly, considering the prices some vendors are charging for this technology. We've seen price tags in the six-figure region for SOA products. That's a shame because SOA stands to underpin much of Web 2.0 and we should be encouraging wide-scale adoption. "

"Hopefully, by automating and centralising the core technologies in Anexis Server and pricing it similarly to most other Windows server products, we will be part of the catalyst for this tremendous, new technology on a mass scale. "

The excitement surrounding the product's release is definitely warranted. For a start, Anexis Server provides end-to-end support for all the core WS-I standards right out of the box. Visual tools allow the developer to build business facades and implement them as access-controlled, encrypted and digitally-signed web services (using the WS-Security standard) in just a few button clicks. The hosting environment will impress systems administrators, with a stand-alone 456KB footprint and no web server, X.509 certificates or application frameworks to install and manage. Deployed applications will enjoy the luxury of automated Web, Schema, WSDL, WS-Policy, WS-Security and WS-Trust support as standard and the developer tools even generate code for the client and server, completely removing the need to grapple with XML day-to-day.

"It's very cool indeed.", exclaims Greg. "We've been putting it through its paces recently, by generating quite complex architectures. We caught a real buzz when we realised just how quickly you can build and deploy these projects. We built an automotive parts system and had a finished SOA, including web availability for customers and suppliers, in just a few days... I think the key is concentrating on line of business application logic, rather than having to write your own infrastructure and middleware components. "

Of course, the availability of this level of technology at such an accessible price may finally ignite an SOA wildfire, so how does XGloo plan to respond?

"With plenty of fuel, of course! [Laughs] We are already working on a new generation of products that will enrich the environment further, providing native code support for all the popular technologies, plus servers and tools that support emerging standards such as choreography, orchestration, coordination, transactions, routing, reliable messaging, trust domains, rights and key management. We're totally fired up about this technology, so it's going to be an exciting couple of years for us and our customers."
